Poor health literacy is a stronger predictor of a person's health than age, income, employment status, education level, and race

Our Story

At the University of Washington in Seattle, two students learned about a growing problem in the field of public health. Although the rate of biomedical knowledge is rapidly progressing, health literacy among adults has followed the opposite trend. Combining their interests in education and medicine, they decided to create a platform for articles surrounding topics in medicine and health. Thus, the MedReport Foundation was born!

From its humble origins on a whiteboard to a recognized non-profit organization with hundreds of writers and readers, the MedReport Foundation has empowered people to take control of their well-being and make informed decisions about their health since the very beginning.

Our Mission

The MedReport Foundation is a nonprofit organization committed to addressing the critical and prevalent issue of limited health literacy, which affects millions worldwide. Our mission is to promote medical literacy and stimulate a global interest in public health. Our team of writers accomplish this by producing researched, easily comprehensible medical and health-related content. Our goal is to inspire and educate readers, ensuring that everyone, regardless of their background, has access to accurate health information. Our work is rooted in the belief that health literacy should be universally attainable, not a privilege. We work diligently to empower individuals with the knowledge they need to make informed health decisions.

Problems We're Addressing

Our work is driven by the data-backed reality that limited health literacy has severe societal consequences. According to the U.S. Department of Education, a staggering 88% of adults have below proficient health literacy skills, making it a pressing global concern. More than 35% would have difficulty understanding a complex condition, interpreting a prescription label, or following a child immunization schedule.  Limited health literacy creates a cascade of problems, including reduced patient adherence to treatment plans, higher healthcare costs due to preventable illnesses, and increased health disparities among marginalized populations. It impedes access to quality healthcare, undermines informed decision-making, and ultimately threatens public well-being.

Our Vision

The MedReport Foundation envisions a world where individuals from all walks of life possess the knowledge and skills to make informed healthcare choices. Our vision is a future where limited health literacy is overcome, and a genuine interest in medical science and public health is fostered worldwide. We aim to equip people with the ability to understand their and others’ complex medical conditions and develop scientific reasoning. By collaborating with dedicated students and healthcare professionals, we strive to create a world where equitable, accessible, and reliable health information is the norm. Together, we are working to ensure a better-informed public and to support the future healthcare leaders of our world.
